GREAT SCOTT! ADAM SHOOTS RECORD 62 IN AUSSIE OPEN FIRST ROUND

FROM THE PGA OF AUSTRALIA WEBSITE
With the Australian PGA and Masters titles already firmly in his grip, what could Adam Scott possibly do at the Emirates Australian Open today to one-up himself?
Shoot a course record of course!
And that's just want the Queenslander did to the delight on thousands of eager golf fans on course for Round 1 of the Emirates Australian Open at Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Teeing off the back nine at 7.10am this morning, Scott stunned everyone with a blistering start to his Triple Crown campaign.
Shooting six consecutive birdies over the first six holes of his day, Scott was cruising early and looked certain to claim the course record which stood at 65 from the 2008 Australian Open.
Despite parring the first five holes on his back nine, Scott finished as he started and gave fans a further four birdies over the closing holes to sign for a new course record of 10-under 62.
"I remember Greg Norman birdying the first six holes of Royal Troon in 1989 and that's about as good a start as I can remember," said Scott.
"It was a great start and a very nice little course record to have here at Royal Sydney."
Despite looking the goods on the leaderboard, Scott said there was a point mid-round where things weren't all going his way.
"I've gone through a roller coaster of emotion out there today, from cruising after six holes to having to work pretty hard for the next six or seven holes just to make some pars."
"I can't sit here and complain about anything but a bit like last week in the first round, the swing wanders on a couple of shots and it did it again today."
"It's just incredible how in 18 holes you can do 360 degrees of emotion and mood swings and everything."
Regardless, an elated Scott entered the clubhouse all smiles, excited by not only his opening round but also the crowds that flocked to Royal Sydney.
"I couldn't believe how many people were there this morning early and the crowd swelled really quickly in the first couple of holes. It was fantastic," Scott said.
"I wasn't expecting that this morning at all, maybe tomorrow afternoon but they were just incredible crowds this morning and it's so nice that I was able to hit a few nice shots for them and get it going."
"It's fun to see golf on a bit of a high down here at the moment; really it's been a lot of fun to play in front of everyone."
Rory McIlroy, one of the few Europeans playing in the event, had a three-under-par 69.
