DEFENDING CHAMPION LAWRENCE BEATS SCOTT GIBSON AT 20TH

SCOTS CHALLENGE ENDS IN QUARTER-
 

FINALS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Scotland's last two survivors, Scott Gibson (Southerness) and Craigie Hill's Daniel Young, both lost in the quarter-finals of the South African amateur golf championship at Hermanus Golf Club on the Western Cape today.
Gibson lost at the 20th to the defending champion, Thriston Lawrence who went on to reach Friday's
36-hole final for the second year in a row. Nobody has won this title two years in a row since Teddy Webber 36 years ago.
Lawrence will play another South Africa, Altin Van der Merwe in the final.
Young lost to James du Preez 3 and 2 in the quarter-finals. Du Preez lost by
one hole to Lawrence in the afternoon semi-finals in which Van der Merwe
beat Marco Steyn 3 and 1.
