Yorkshireman James Maw didn't repeat his 10-under-par opening round of 61 today in the second and final round of the Gecko Tour 36-hole event, the Sovex Invitational at El Paraiso Golf Club, Malaga on Spain's Costa del Sol ... but he did not have to to win the 2,000 Euros first prize.
Maw from Abbeydale Golf Club, Sheffield had a one-under-par 70 for an 11-under-par total of 131.
That gave his challengers a chance to close the gap but Manuel Quiros (Spain) and another Yorkshireman, Marcus Armitage from Howley Hall, Leeds, came up one short of catching the leader.
Quiros had a day's best 63 for 132 and Armitage a 67 for the same total. They earned 875 Euros each.
Normally, Spaniards dominate the Gecko Tour prize lists but this was one event where the "Englanders" did well.
James Watts (Kingsway) and Carlos Balmaseda (Spain) tied for fourth place on 135, both returning 67s in the second round.
England's Lloyd Kennedy had a 65 for 136 and tied with Norway's Erik Tage Johansen (67) for sixth place.
